“Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his twin brother.” – Khalil Gibran
I can’t do it.
I don’t know where to start.
Or how.
I feel lost.
What if I fail?
Maybe it’s not worth the risk.
What’s the point?
It’s not going to work out anyway.
It never does.
I should just give up.
Sound familiar?
Its the same voice of doubt that rents space in all of our heads. It makes us quit before we even start. It makes us play small and stay in our comfort zone, even if we are miserable there. Because the devil we know is better than the devil we don’t…
Doubt dances with fear, which paralyzes us from taking the action needed to create the lives we want. It creates a cloud in our head that prevents us from seeing the forest through the trees. It creates confusion about how to take the first step. So we stay stuck where we are.
Lying just beneath the doubt are the core beliefs that keep it in place.
I’m not good enough.
I cant get what I want.
Until we start to question these beliefs and challenge them, we continue to experience a life of limitation, feeling stuck and powerless to create change. Doubt is a lack of faith in ourselves.
Doubt often hides in plain sight, reflected back to us in the life we’re living. It might look like a job we can’t stand but feel stuck in, unable to imagine a way out. Or a relationship that leaves us feeling empty, yet we stay—choosing the comfort of something over the fear of nothing. It might be that side hustle we keep postponing, claiming we don’t have the time or energy, so we numb out with Netflix instead. Or it’s the heaviness we carry in our bodies—physically and emotionally—longing for change but feeling too depleted to begin.
Doubt seeps into the quiet spaces of our lives. We know we want more, but we don’t know where to start—so we don’t. And just like that, another year passes. Then five. And we’re still in the same place, wondering how we got here.
Doubt kept me from taking the big leaps I wanted to in my life for a long time. I kept pushing it off, finding excuses, or numbing out. And years passed me by. Until I started contemplating the beliefs at the core of the doubts.
The way forward is question what the doubt is saying. As long as its allowed to remain subconscious, it will continue to drive our choices and decisions.
Is doubt saying you will fail? That you aren’t good enough? That you aren’t smart enough, talented enough, fill in the blank enough?
What if you started to question that belief daily? Is it true that ________?
The power is in questioning the unconscious beliefs and stories that are driving from the backseat.
By just questioning, you begin to take the power out of the beliefs. You reclaim some of the energy that has been used to hold them (and you) in place. And with that reclaimed energy, you can start to take action.
The doubt will still be there, but you will see it and act anyway because you know that it is a thought that has no power of its own.
And that’s how the big shifts start to happen in your life.
Ready to challenge those beliefs and start making the changes you want in your life?
